Will It Be Ok?
I think a lot people feel that these are dark times and how will we recover. The thing to remember is our institutions are solid. We have a very strong two-party system. I would like to see a strong independent coalition form, however, that will take time. The challenge with our two-party system is that they battle each other for even the tiniest leverage. You can have strong opinions but, in the end, they have to work together to legislate. The public does not see much of this today. The budget process is run by majority rules, even if the majority is very slim.
Will we see politicians who are willing to stand on their own and reach across the aisle to get legislation done with votes from both parties? Right now, there are not many who come to mind. The worst label you can have in either party is centrist. The 20% fringe element on both ends of the spectrum in both parties demand total loyalty to the platform. Any independent thought is ruthlessly exploited.
It is not all doom and gloom. There is still a silent majority in the country who want compromise. That does not mean cave in, just for Congress to work together to support a better country. I leave the President out of this because he is part of the fringe. He is who he is and is not going to change. Congress can try their best to work him, however, it will be a challenge.
As political as most people feel the Supreme Court is, I still believe all of them are smart and will look fairly at a case. Its structure is strong.
It is never as bad as people may believe. For all the faults, the government is strong. There will be change, there always is. It will be ok.
