Is There Religion In Government?
Article One of the Bill of Rights
says that Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion or
prohibiting the free exercise thereof. Hmmmm….
Let’s see: the president is sworn in
with the hand on the Bible. The official oath does not have “so help me god in
it,” but it is added it anyway. The US military has an official chaplain corps.
These are officers of various faiths who are paid with tax dollars. There are
churches on military installations, official federal property. The Chaplin
corps funding is in the military appropriation bill which is federal law. Does
the Chaplin core do good work, yes. However, it should not be funded with
taxpayer dollars.
Congress has a prayer to open each
day. So that “No law respecting the establishment of religion” is clearly
violated. You are kidding yourself if you
think there is no religion in government.
Our money mentions God on it. Religion
plays a large part in the federal government. I do not want Shari a law it any
way shape or form. However, next time you hear someone say Sharia law violates
the separation of church and state, you may have to take a look at how much
Judeo-Christian principles are there today.
