Do I Still Respect Them?
President Trump has a couple of
retired 4 star Generals on his staff, John Kelly and James Mattis. Both were high respected. Gen Kelly gets more press because he is the
Chief of Staff and the internal battels in the White House are nightly
news. Gen Mattis is the Secretary of
Defense. I can’t believe both of these
guys respect the President. Trump was a
draft dodger and is a bullying coward.
Both Generals have seen combat and Gen Kelly lost a son in the
Afghanistan. The question is, why do
they stay when the President makes a mockery of the Commander in Chief
role? Each has stated that they feel
they are doing best for the country by staying in the jobs.
I have a hard time respecting them for
this position. By staying they are
condoning the actions of the President.
They can claim all they want that they are a better option than if they
quit, however, their reputations are impacted by this. How can someone with their backgrounds be
ordered by a man that has no principles and has no problem denigrating them in
public. In truth, Gen Kelly has been the
one getting the abuse. Gen Mattis has
been pretty much out of the news.
No matter how noble their reasons for
staying in a job, in the end they tacitly agree with the President if they
don’t speak out against his behaviors.
If they stay, they are signaling that having a Commander in Chief who is
a buffoon is ok with them and for that I can’t respect them.
