Should I Do It?
Mother Theresa had a list that ended
each sentence with do it anyway. She
meant that you should do what’s right for what you believe even if the
consequences may not be positive.
I believe each of us has those times
when we need the encouragement to do it anyway.
There may be something you want to do
but are unsure. This has to be something that you just feel you have to do, not
something superficial.
The biggest reason to do it anyway
would be because your inner compass is telling you to, even if your support
group does not offer a positive recommendation.
Going it alone can be difficult. There may be people who you truly value
inputs from who just don’t see what you see.
That is okay. Your trusted advisors are there to offer
opinions, not make the decision.
Now, if all your trusted advisors
have strong negative opinions and advise against it, you would be wise to carefully consider what
they have to say. However, there will
be that time or two in life where you will go against advice because you just
know you have to. The results may not
always turn out how you expected, and the advice offered by friends may prove
correct. But you will feel much worse
in terms of regret if you did not try what you knew you had to.
Sometimes it can get lonely when you
go against what is called normal. Great
advances in science came about only when someone went against the prevailing
wisdom.
You may not see great changes in
yourself unless you go against the advice of others that differs from your own.
I don’t advise being reckless. There is a difference between taking risks
and being reckless. Risks are actions
taking with thought, recklessness is action without thought.
You may lose friends if you choose to
go your own way that is against their advice.
If what you choose to do is a risk vice reckless, then you would do well
to reconsider the value of that friendship.
A true friend will support you even
if they don’t agree with you.
Do it anyway can be a very powerful
force in your life.
